What Happens During a Botox Treatment with Dr. McCoy?
Before
Dr. McCoy will first map out the main areas that you would like to target. Then, she will apply an anesthetic cream to the targeted areas that will numb you temporarily so that you can sit back and relax while Dr. McCoy works her magic.
During
Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all administered using a blunt tip cannula to help prevent severe bruising and deliver a more precise dose of the neuromodulator. A blunt tip cannula is also a much safer option in comparison to traditional needles when administering Botox because it significantly reduces the chances of accidentally damaging a nerve that could potentially cause permanent damage.
After
Lastly, Dr. McCoy will discuss any questions or concerns that you might have before sending you to go about your day. Botox truly is a “lunchtime procedure” because you can be done with treatment before your lunch break is over. With no downtime associated with this treatment, you are free to go about your busy schedule.
What Can I Expect After a Botox Treatment?
Some mild bruising at the injection site is to be expected, but makeup is a perfectly safe solution until your skin heals. The full effects of Botox will become apparent between 24-48 hours after treatment. If it’s your first time experiencing Botox, Dr. McCoy may recommend a follow-up appointment after 2 weeks to make sure that you are completely satisfied with your results or to determine if you need any touch-ups.
How Much Botox® Will I Need?
What is the Difference Between Botox, Daxiify, Dysport, and Xeomin?
Botox is the first and most popular of the neuromodulators. Botox contained Botulinum toxin type A—hence its name. Botox was FDA approved in 2002 for the treatment of forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and other fine lines on the face. Botox can last up to 4-6 weeks or longer with proper care of the skin. Dr. McCoy typically prefers Botox due to its superior qualities but may use other products with certain patients.
The main difference between Daxiify and Botox is their chemical structure. Daxiify is a newer, longer-lasting neurotoxin that is made up of a smaller protein than Botox. This means that Daxiify may be able to penetrate the skin more easily and provide a more targeted effect.
In addition, Daxiify is reported to have a faster onset of action than Botox, with results appearing within a few days of treatment. However, both Daxify and Botox work by blocking nerve signals to the muscles, causing them to relax and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Dysport produces similar results to Botox; however, in addition to Botulinum Type A, Dysport contained other inhibitors and muscular blocking agents to improve its effectiveness. Not to worry, though—these are all safe, FDA-approved ingredients combined to target wrinkles. Also, Dysport differs from Botox in dosage. The injectable comes in a single-use 300 unit or 500 unit vial. This means that there will be more Dysport applied per injection site when compared to Botox, making it more helpful for larger areas like the forehead.
Xeomin is considered by experts as the purest injectable because it’s free of some complex proteins that Botox and Dysport contain. This gives Xeomin an advantage for patients with sensitive skin, as fewer proteins interact with the body.
